This year the organisers of the Busselton Ironman, IMG are offering the first competitor to break a world record $50,000. The Busselton triathlon course is regarded as one of the fastest in the world mainly due to its flat terrain and this coupled with the bonus may attract a larger world class field this year.
- The male world record time is 7:50:27 and is held by Belgian Luc Van Lierde
- The female world record time is 8:50:53 and is held by Zimbabwean Paula Newby-Fraser
The fastest male time over the Busselton course was set by Jason Shortis in 2006 with a time of 8:03:56. The fastest female time is 9:10:01 and was set by Lisbeth Kristensen also in 2006.
