SWFL Round 17

Round 17 of the South West Football League was a successful one for Busselton with all three teams coming away with victories over Augusta Margaret River. While the league and reserve teams easily accounted for their opponents the colts were lucky to come away with a 2 point victory.

Busselton came out strong with a 4.1 goal to 0.1 goal opening term and never relinquished the lead. Inaccurate kicking by Augusta Margaret River meant that they were never a serious threat to Busselton. The win has Busselton in 6th place on the ladder with 32 points. With positions 3 through to 6 only separated by percentage Busselton is still a very strong chance to make the finals.

Busselton went into the match slight favourites over Augusta Margaret River but a strong first half performance by the home team had them still in the game. Busselton kicked away in the third term kicking 3 goals to 1. A strong defensive performance by Busselton in the final stanza secured the match. The win secures fifth spot on the ladder for Busselton but with Harvey Brunswick up next week spot in the final five is not yet secure.

Inaccurate kicking by Busselton almost cost them a victory over Hawks. Busselton managed only 1 goal 12 behinds in the first half, but a low scoring opposition kept them in the game. A rejuvenated Magpies outfit came out of the long break with a 7 goal quarter. The Hawks responded in the last quarter but Busselton managed to hang on by a margin of 2 points. Busselton remains in 6th place on the ladder only one win out of the top five.
